The Revolutionary War started in 1763. Blacks, whites, men, and women joined. Blacks were not allowed to join the Revolutionary Army at first, but soon George Washington was said to let blacks join and defend their country. Famous African Americans were in the Revolutionary war. To name a few there were Peter Salem, Salem Poor, James Forten, Cuff Whitemore and many more for that matter. Most African Americans made a special requirement. Some followed in the whites ways as drummers, fifers, spies, and guides. After the African Americans proved themselves worthy, brave, and gold hearted, the whites finally realized how strong and brave they really were. All African Americans, as well as some whites, hoped that this war would bring the end to slavery. The African Americans played an important role in the war. All of our Americans were needed. Without them we wouldnt have proved our selves worthy as Americans.
